FAQ
It’s my first time to a spa. What should I know ahead of time?
We suggest you visit our Spa Etiquette page, which will tell you everything you need to know about your visit to the spa! If you have other questions that aren’t answered there, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
Do I need to bring anything?
If your services include a pedicure, we suggest you bring open toe sandals or flip-flops, since your toes will take some time to fully dry. Other that that, you don’t need to bring anything but yourself – we’ll provide you with a robe and slippers, and anything else you might need for your services. If you’d prefer, you may bring a swimsuit to wear in our Japanese soaker tubs, although it is not necessary.
Will I have to undress for my services?
This depends on the service you’re having. For manicures and pedicures, you can remain fully clothed. We suggest wearing loose pants, shorts, a skirt or capris if you want to keep your clothes on for a pedicure, as we need access to your legs from the knees down. Reflexology can also be done fully clothed. For most other services, you will need to change into a robe and/or wrap. Our therapists are fully trained to protect your privacy during treatment, and you will always be draped to ensure your comfort.
I’m pregnant. Is it okay for me to have spa services?
Absolutely! Most of our services are safe during pregnancy, and we offer a special retreat designed just for pregnant women. Please inform our staff at the time you book, and we’ll make sure your services are appropriate for you. Services that include prolonged heat are contra-indicated. This includes body wraps, soaks, hydrotherapy and Hot Stone massage. Our signature Hydradermine facial is also contra-indicated during pregnancy, as it uses a galvanic current.
I have allergies or environmental sensitivities. Can I still have spa services?
Please notify us of any allergies at the time of booking, and we will let you know if we can accommodate you. Massages can be done with unscented oil, and most of our treatments are flexible enough that we can use alternative products if you are allergic to a particular ingredient. We do our best to keep artificial fragrances out of the spa but we cannot prevent other clients from wearing fragrances.
What is a Brazilian Bikini Wax?
We usually describe a Brazilian wax as removing as little or as much as you’d like!
What’s the difference between Aromatherapy Massage and Relaxation Massage?
For an aromatherapy massage, one of our aromatherapists will consult you on any health and wellness concerns and create a customized blend of essential oils just for you. Our relaxation massage uses a pre-made essential oil blend, designed to be safe for everyone.
What’s the difference between Massage Therapy and other massages on the menu?
Massage Therapy is performed only by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). RMT’s in BC are currently required to attend three years of schooling and pass a two-part licensing exam. A Therapeutic Massage can be gentle or deep, depending on your own preference and health concerns or conditions. Other types of massages, such as Aromatherapy, relaxation massage and hot stone massage may be performed by RMTs, certified body workers, or by aestheticians, depending on their qualifications.
Is my massage covered under my extended health plan?
If your extended health plan covers massage therapy, please request a Registered Massage Therapist when you make your appointment. Only Therapeutic Massage is covered, other types of massage, although performed by RMTs, do not qualify. We will give you a receipt with the therapist’s registration number, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Is gratuity included in the price of my service?
Gratuity is not included in the price of your service. If you are part of a group of four or more people a 15% gratuity will automatically be added to your bill.
